I've never done anything or really celebrated my birthday as an adult (except for my 21st) so for my 30th I decided to switch it up. My wife, Amanda, has been wanting to go to Morocco for a few years now, and I've never been anywhere in Africa so we hopped on a plane across the Atlantic.
Long story short, our friends who came with us never made it through customs and were sent on the next flight back to NYC, so this was just a solo trip with myself and Amanda. We didn't have anything specific planned, just to hit up 3 cities and shoot photos. Our first stop was Marrakech.
Our second stop was Casablanca. This stop was only a couple of days but photographing at the Hassan II Mosque was one of my favorite things throughout the week. We also randomly ended up having dinner one night at Ricks Cafe from the movie "Casablanca" on the night of its 75th anniversary. They had a bunch of live music and it was a really cool atmosphere to enjoy.
Without a doubt, the highlight of our trip was checking out the blue city of Chefchaouen. This "3 hour" drive ended up taking us twice as long due to the long windy mountain roads and congested towns along the way, however, it's one of the most beautiful road trips I've ever been on. I also got a speeding ticket on my birthday which was fun. Anyone who has any plans of coming to Morocco has to go to Chefchaouen. It's a different vibe than the other cities and literally every block is more photogenic than the last. You can literally get lost in the narrow alleyways for hours and be entertained the whole time. You can even see ladies painting the stairs, walls, and grounds blue to maintain it's vibrant color.
