It’s been a while since I’ve updated this blog, but I had to add to my year end review tradition. If I don’t do this, then 5 years from now I’ll have no idea what happened in 2018 ha!
After ringing in the new year with a helicopter ride over Times Square, I headed out west to spend some time being somewhat warm in February.
I was able to take a couple of open door flights over Los Angeles with Flynyon then head to Las Vegas to party and I got to see the sunrise over the strip which was an incredible sight.
While gathering all the content for this blog post, I completely forget that my wife and I went to Indonesia and Qatar earlier in the year. We took a trip to Bali and managed to get a nice layover in Doha. Two of my favorite regions in the world in one trip was a win win.
After many years of missing it, I finally got a chance to attempt to shoot Manhattanhenge, where the sunset lines up perfectly with the grid of the streets in Manhattan. In classic Manhattanhenge tradition, it got all cloudy when the sun was hitting the horizon, so this was the best shot I ended up with. I will be giving this another shot again next year.
I GOT TO MEET SHOOTER MCGAVIN! Anyone who’s a Happy Gilmore fan can appreciate this one.
One of my favorite highlights in 2018 was hopping around Scandinavia with my wife for a few weeks. This has easily become one of my favorite places in the world to travel to, especially in the summer since the days are sooooo long. We went to Sweeden, Finland, Denmark and Estonia.I haven’t written a blog on this trip yet but I will hopefully have one up soon!
I was able to attend my first couple of Sony events in NYC this year. It was really fun to be able to check out some new gear, shoot photos of different things than I’m used to, and of course get a lot of free SWAG!
I did something this year that I wouldn’t have expected to do at all. I started a blading podcast with my buddy, Billy O’Neill, called Jump Street Podcast. We just wrapped up our first season last week and happy to say that we managed to get 2k subs on Youtube and 5k followers on Instagram. Really looking forward to where this brings us since we’re already kicking off season 2 live in the Neatherlands in February!
I ate an obscene amount of pizza from around the world. No complaints at all.
My final trip of the year was a quickie down to Florida where my wife’s mother just bought a house. I mainly went to skate but it was fun being able to check out places in Florida I’ve never been to before.
Speaking of my wife, I was happy to see her quit her “regular” full time job to pursue her photography business called 22 Ivy. As a fellow self employed photographer, I’m so proud of her and can’t wait to see her succeed and her business grow over the years!
I got to meet one of the best puppies ever! Check her out on her Instagram page!
We also ran into a pig on the street. Her name was Mona Lisa. Mona Lisa does not have an Instagram page.
This just got me really excited for 2019! I didn’t think a lot happened in 2018 until I wrote this blog. I guess this is part of the reason I do these every year since it helps you look back and reflect on where you are, where you’ve come from, and what you can take away from it.
