You already know how the old saying goes... "The best camera is the one you have with you". Well, this couldn't be truer in this case.
The day before I got married in Phuket, Thailand (that's right, I got married a few days ago!), we took a few minutes before sunset with our photographer, Efrain at J’adore Love, to get some photos before our big day. This was the last shot of the night and he had to run back to his room to get something. During that brief moment, I was able to capture this shot of my now wife silhouetted against this insanely beautiful sunset.
I didn’t have a camera on me since I was being photographed and all I had was my phone but I was still able to get this amazing image with my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Photography is more about lighting and composition than anything else and this were the two factors that made this shot work. If I went back to my room to get my camera, the sun would’ve been down and I wouldn’t have ended up with anything at all.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has a “Pro” mode which gives you full manual controls just like a real camera, so I was still able to adjust my shutter, iso, etc. I probably could’ve gotten a very similar image in full auto with the phone but I still love the way this came out. More actual wedding photos by our incredibly talented photographer to come soon...
Don’t focus on the gear, just get the shot!
